Swapping barrels/Headspace - Remington 7600

I have never actually changed a barrel on that rifle, but typically barrels for say remingtons are short chambered a bit. When you fit the barrel then it is finish reamed by hand and that is when the headspace is set. Also indexed and sight cuts/sights installed.

In theory if you remove the barrel, and use the same recoil lug then the sights should line back up after a remove and install, but in reality they could end up slightly off.

IMO if you want to swap barrels around you are better off getting a rifle with a bolt action with a barrel nut like a savage. Savage you can change a barrel in about 2 minutes and there are tons of Savage barrels floating around.

Now they also make Remage barrels and nuts that allow a barrel swap on a remington bolt action. Remage Barrels run about $300 for those and are all custom.

You can pick up a factory take off barrel off the Savage forum for about $65-75 usually.
