Need a self defense 12gauge that is reliable and dependable.

Need a self defense 12gauge that is reliable and dependable. So Im in the market for a 12 gauge. I want something I can go shoot for fun on occasion but I also want it primarily for defense. So I guess I want a tactical type of shotgun.

What brand/models are a good place to start looking at?

I like pump action. I want something I can put more than 4 shells in. And Im not fond of I guess you would call it "full sized" in that I don't want one with a long barrel that drags on the ground if I hold it at my side.

Shotguns were never my strong suit so I don't know who makes the best what.

Reccomendations on a target and home defense rifle.

Reccomendations on a target and home defense rifle. I am looking for a semi automatic rifle for target shooting, and "worst case scenario" defense.

I want something that is reliable, dependable, easy to maintain and I can count on to fire when I need it to.

I don't have a ton of money to put into a rifle but I also don't have to buy garbage. When it comes to weapons and tools I like to pay for quality.

I don't know if like 7.62 is still the standard for semi rifles anymore or what. I had a nice little collection but due to legal and money problems I had to sell everything I had so flash forward a couple years and now I need to rebuild it and Im starting with the most expensive parts, the rifles.

If you need to know more just ask me. I am just not sure what kinds of specifics to give to narrow down my search.

Daily Caller article on searching for a home defense gun

Stumbled across this a bit ago.

It's sort of an "Emily Miller of the Washington Times goes looking for a gun" type article.

http://dailycaller.com/2013/06/15/what-we-learned-when-we-sent-a-female-reporter-shopping-for-a-home-defense-handgun/

I just find it to be very interesting that (as noted at the bottom of the article) not a single revolver was recommended.

I'm wondering if that has anything to do with the current sales climate, as revolvers have seemed to be in somewhat short supply, or if it's just the clerks at the various stores were all semi-auto guys...

Not particularly in depth.
