Slip on grip covers VS a pair of grips

I have used slip on covers (Hogue Handall's), and would suggest getting a pair of grips for your gun. The slip on covers do help with grip, but by their very definition are not securely fixed.

There have also been cases where slip on covers ride up and hit mag release buttons.

I used a slip on over a Kahr CM9 because of the checkering of the backstrap. It made the gun a little fatter, and slightly harder to conceal. I would think the Butler Creek's would do the same.

Makarov as a CCW- grips?

Ladies and Gents, I have begun carrying my Bulgarian Makarov as one of my CCW weapons. I have a Galco Softuk holster that works wonderfully with my typical non-work attire (can't carry at work).

I feel comfortable shooting with my factory grips, but I have considered switching to a set of aftermarket rubber grips to possibly improve grip and protect the original grips.

Should I get the replacements? If so, what does TFL reccomend?

EDIT: While I didn't intend for this to be a Makarov Picture Party, I guess, as the OP, I don't mind at all.

Refinish tips for grips

Is it just me, or are the grips on my Star dried-out and shabby-looking?

If there's nothing wrong or nothing I can do, I'll live with it.

Otherwise, I'd appreciate any tips for a quick, easy fix.

I realize that is likely two different tips, three if you'll also suggest a "best" solution.
