need help to add picture in post

Thank you for your replies.

Still nothing happening. When I left click on the arrow next to the paper clip or the Attachments button following the post window, I get nada.

Its as if the Forum is blocking my attempts to add an attachment, but the Forum Rules window under the post window states that I may post attachments.

I must be doing something wrong, but don't know what.

What size hand guards do I need?

Hi all,
I'm looking for some reassurance before I place an order for some new hand guards for my SBR. It's a LMT with a 10.5" barrel. I'm wanting to go with a magpul hand guards and a magpul stock. Would the carbine length hand guards be the ones I need?

The differences in civilian, law enforcement, military training

Objectives:

In all cases, in theory the right to self defense is never denied.

In the US and most free countries the primary job of the military is to enforce political policy of it's respective nation through the application of violence and force or the threat of the same. This may be defensive, offensive and/ or other means. As such the military has the least restrictive use of violence. The killing of civilian non combatants is mostly allowed when trying to achieve a tactical, strategic and/ or political goal. Using military forces to achieve personal goals and objectives is strictly illegal.

Civilians and police are not allowed by law to use offensive techniques (generally) to achieve political or personal goals and objectives. Police are agents of the state and not allowed to use violence, force, threat of force when acting as an agent of the state to achieve personal goals. The killing of non combatants and uninvolved people is mostly illegal.

Police may use offensive force in certain cases such as when attempting to capture a known or suspected criminal. Unlike the military they are no longer allowed to kill suspects offensively legally. Although there seem to be some questions about escaping prisoners in some places. In some places police may legally impress the aid of non law enforcement personnel to use force on their behalf although that is rarity these days.

Non-police uses of force is near universally restricted to defensive measures of some kind to defend lives and honor or in some cases and location property from violent attack, arson, burglary or theft. Honor being protection from sexual assault. Local laws vary greatly.

Group Training:

Military units conduct individual training but do not train to operate as an individual but nearly always as a member of a team. There are very few exceptions to this if any. In the military even a two man team has a leader and decision maker.

Police train to operate individually and as a member of a team. Most of the time police officers operate individually with access to other team members to call upon to support his law enforcement activity. Most offensive force actions are team oriented.

Non-police civilians mostly train as individuals in defensive techniques. Group training implies planning and leadership which most civilians are not structured for. In some places group force with weapons training is illegal or strictly regulated. Some people do train to operate as a team for certain things like family Home Defense or how security guards will handle a shop lifting crowd at a mall. It is a general rarity though.

Casting Large Bullets

How many cavities on your mold?

Sounds like your not up to temp with it just yet.

If you do the preheat on the stove, set a iron skillet, or old skill saw blade on top of the burner to equalize the heat, and keep it from being directly on the aluminum mold. IF you heat it straight up you could possibly and easily war the aluminum.

If your using the 6 cavity old, just start out with the first two holes and pour as fast as you can to get the heat up. Once you start throwing a good bullet from those add another hole. Repeat until your pouring all six cavities.

The big bullet molds like heat, and they can cool off pretty quick as well. I use several in the 300gr range. I try and keep my pot temp in the 650 - 675 degree range, and pour fast enough to just get a light frosting on the bullets. So far it has worked great and it helps keep the tumble lube on them as well. (Thats my story and I'm stickin to it anyway)

Rifle competitions and what to look for when choosing a rifle

Popular options is 2-gun and 3-gun.

3-Gun is Rifle, pistol, and shotgun. It is further broken down sometimes into Tactical 3-gun, and Multi-gun. I have done 3-Gun (Tactical) which is more offesive/defensive focused and more safety orienty. Meaning you have to use cover during reloads, pie-ing, and each gun is carried separately. You normally switch between rifle and shotgun during the stage (not carrying them together) as your pistol is holstered. For example, you start with your shotgun only, shoot steel targets, and move to another area and dump your shotgun in a bucket, then pickup your rifle on a table. You shoot pistol targets as needed.
I've never tried Multi-gun, but I believe it is more "run-n-gun" style, meaning you don't need to have cover all the time (behind walls that is) and can carry all 3 guns together.

2-Gun is Rifle and pistol only.

For rifle selection, the AR15 is the most common choice. You will want a caliber of 223/5.56 at minimum but can have others like 7.62, 6.8SPC, 300BLK, etc. You will NOT qualify with a 22lr rifle.

You can also use an AK47 if you feel comfortable. One of the guys I ran with used an accurate AK47 w/ optics even during the 150yard targets and he was hitting them accurately.

For a rifle and pistol you will definitely want a semiauto. Shotguns are fine with pump-action, but semiauto is also good if you can afford one.

Good luck with your selection!

1960's milo indistries NM slide

I wasn't sure where to post this, here or in the gunsmith forum, so, i guess move me if i got it wrong.

I recently acquired a 1911 slide. It appears to be a NM replacement slide made, by a company called milo industries, in the late 60's.
The slide appears to be in original condition.
The seems to have been cut for a low mount, adjustable rear sight.
The dovetail measures 0.332" X 0.088" X 65 degrees.
I cannot find a sight that has a pin matching that dovetail.
HELP?!
