Green ammo harmful to firearms

Frangible ammunition have bullets designed to fragment on impact to prevent ricochets. The bullets are typically brass shavings with a binder of epoxy. That does not strike me as particularly erosive to a modern firearm barrel. I suppose the epoxy might have some 'grit', but I find it curious a manufacturer would intentionally design a product of this type to damage a firearm.

Health issues with 'dust' of frangible bullet dust? I suppose that's possible; breathing dirt in air suspension isn't all that good, either. The lead in air suspension is fairly hazardous as well.

'Green' ammunition will cause damage to the breech face and firing pin of a Glock pistol? I understand one must NOT use lead bullets in Glock pistols as well. Since I have used lead bullets in all sorts of firearms for more years than I care to remember (let alone mention), I consider ANY firearm which is unsuited for lead bullet use to be inferior in design.

I've shot frangible ammunition through several of my handguns. In rather limited quantities, I admit. No discernible wear or problems, but I don't shoot a Glock.

One employs frangible ammunition only in those instances where damage to targets, back stop or whatever might be caused by regular ammunition. Confine your usage to those occasions and all should be well.

I made a batch of Ben's Red and while it works great, i wanted Blue. so i picked up a random tube of blue grease and started a thread only to find out the grease i picked up wouldn't be very good. while at princess auto i found another tube of blue lithium complex grease and made up a batch.

it was going great and looked blue like i wanted so i poured some into muffin pans and let it set up. i took one of them inside and jammed it into my lyman 4500 and starting sizing some 45's. it didn't look at all like i wanted as the yellow beeswax turned it green

maybe next time i will get some bleached beeswax and give it another shot, once i go through 2 batches of Ben's red...

I have read somewhere that the bleaching process changes beeswax making it unsuitable for lube. I don't know if that is true or not.

Why does the color matter? It will all shoot the same...blue is proven to give +10 FPS and after testing green i get +25 FPS. that's why green means go and red means stop.

Why does the color matter? It will all shoot the same...Doppler shift. When you push your boolits up near the speed of light, it's harder for your enemy to take correct evasive action if the boolits are already on the blue wavelength.

While Ben's Red is an excellent lube, it is widely known that it appears purple at relativistic speeds, and Lt. Sulu will have an easier time dodging it.

the blue color really does make it so you can't see a boolit coming at light speed, but you can see it going away much easier, unless it's raining.

it's all an educated guess,,,, till the trigger is pulled.

the more i find out about shootin boolits, the more it contradicts everything i ever learned about shooting jaxketed.

You cant reliably determine in a pistol an extra 10-25 fps, the extreme spread will be that much at least, BTW what is the gain of an extra 25 fps?

An extra 25 is everything! It means 10% increase in accuracy and a 15% increase it stopping power.

That, PLUS it makes people green with envy.

and it goes 3 more feet behind the paper target before dropping straight to the ground.

Although they also had an orange coloured lube I might try. What I really need to do is make a hollow stick mold instead of muffin molds.

need some loading data for the 45-200-SWC and Green Dot please

Hi, I poured a bunch of 45-200SWC's yesterday and plan on loading up a few this weekend. I found a Green Dot recipe in the Lee book, but it seems a bit off. The starting and max load weights are the same. Odd. Are any of you loading this bullet with Green Dot? Will the OAL be the same as the HG 68(1.25)?
