Cast for .223/ almost ready!

Okay, this has taken a good bit of time but I'm almost ready. I have my sizer and Mdie, I cast a hundred or so this morning from a Lyman 225415. After they've cooled for a while I'm going to get really picky and sort them. I've read you should be extremely selective on these little boogers. ....man they are tiny!
My plan is to cull any with even the slightest defect or rounded edge. Then I'll weigh them and usually I separate +/- .5g but I think these ill go further and separate +/- .1g.
I have 50 cases prepped. RP brass. I weighed them and found fifty within 2g of each other.
Should I weigh the gas checks just to continue with the anal retentive OCD?

These will be fired from a 1/9 twist CZ527 that I have given a super thorough enema to. I spent a good fifty patches with Montana Extreme .50bmg copper solvent. I don't care for bore brushes but I even ran one down a few times. Soaked patches finally came out white and I ran dry patches down till all was spotless.

I've been shooting this rifle with filthy copper condoms for years and I KNOW it will clover leaf five shots at a hundred all day long, so I really want to do this right. So, I have a few questions.
The only powder I have that's listed in my Lyman cast bullet manual is Unique. BUT, I have to go to town today so I can pick up something else if its available. I never use this rifle for anything but making me smile at the gun range so velocity means squat as long as its accurate. I have a max of hundred yards so I won't need a barn burner.

I have been using Bens Red exclusively for awhile now with flawless results. Any reason to change that? I have several sticks of LBT blue soft I could use.

Any hints or tips for pan lubing these dinky little things? I think that's gonna be the fly in the ointment. I have eight thumbs and two pinkys, and these are so tiny!

Like I said, I really want to get this right. My reputation is on the line. There are some know it all D-bags at my range that say cast boolits in .22 centerfire is a waste of time. They said that too about all centerfire rifles until I shot a quarter size group from my Blackout.

Guns Almost Illegal in California

Yesterday, 11:08 AM Guns Almost Illegal in California I received this email from my father who lives in California.

This is very depressing. California has a Democratic Super Majority in both the House and Senate, plus a Democratic Governor. They are able to pass anything they can agree upon, without Republican support and almost all Democrats will ban all gun ownership if they can. At the rate they are going, it will be impossible to own a gun in California for any useful purpose, including self defense. In addition, if you do own a gun, you will be on as many government watch lists and data bases as a known terrorist, and treated like one for all intents and purposes.
What is even more concerning is the common conception that in law, "As California goes, so goes the Nation." California leads the way as the state with the highest population and many states follow the lead of California, when they see what California can get away with. Even the National Congress frequently follows with laws reflecting California law.

Another thing that my dad told on one visit was that, "California never met a law it didn't like." On that same visit, he showed me a printout of a law that passed in California that started out as one law having nothing to do with arms, and the legislators replaced all the text with a new anti-gun law. My jaw dropped when I saw that. They are insane and completely corrupt and willing to do any outrageous and illegal thing to get control of people, which is, after all, what gun control is.

Due to exorbitant taxes and gun laws, many taxpayers are fleeing Kalifornia before the New ORDER is imposed and they pass laws against "Thought Crimes" aka the book, "1984."

California will be akin to Massachussets, NJ, NY and Illinois- ALL are Liberal experiments that have FAILED! Get out while one can.....

Instant(well almost) success

I finally used the Lee 4-20 I got for Christmas '11 and the 1 oz. slug mold from last Christmas for my first casting session. I have soft lead from 2 sources (Thanks, Captain) both scratchable by thumbnail so I mixed them in equal proportions. I had tin ready but didn't need it. I had prepped the mold by smoothing rough edges off the sprue plate and the key drive portion of the mold and graphiting both with a pencil. Ingots melted fairly rapidly with the dial set on 9. I set the mold on the pot while waiting for the lead to melt. The first slug was frosty, so I turned the dial down to 8. My ersatz casting thermometer-$10 grill thermometer-threatened to peg at 750 so I backed it down to 7.
I found 8 or just under to be more appropriate for my casting rhythm. I had to tap the bottom of the key drive to get the slugs to release and at 7, the lower residual heat made things sticky.
No drips until I got one from the thermocouple which I am not using. Maybe because I replaced the wood knob on the pot with an all brass knob and a couple of washers. When I say tap-I mean lightly, with a wood screwdriver handle. And if you say it didn't happen without pictures.....

I finally used the Lee 4-20 I got for Christmas '11That Lee 4-20 is the deal used to pour my jigs with a torch and ladle but it failed miserably for boolits. Did my second casting last night 26--1/4 ounce jigheads and over 400 boolits in short order.......
