Love for the Jennings J-22....

When I was just getting rolling as a hardcore shooter and gun guy back in high school, a buddy that often showed up at the Sportsman Club where I "grew up" always brought something different to play with, and one day he brought a blued Jennings J-22. Like all his handguns, he always offered shots to me & my cousin, as we were the professional range rats ALWAYS hanging around the outdoor range on weekends.

As I recall, it worked fairly well for what it was. I do have vivid memories of having an "ever so slightly" out of battery firing with it. It spewed brass particles all over my right hand and all three of us just shrugged our shoulders and blamed my Federal Lightning bulk ammo. The case head was obliterated and I believe he needed some tweezers or some such thing to pull out the case body from the chamber.

In any case, one of the local gun stores offered them up in a local ad back in around '93 for $54.95 and my buddy (NOT a gun guy) turns to me and says, "new gun for $55? Is this crap?" and I looked at the ad to see the familiar Jennings and I told him that I'd shot one...and for THAT kind of money, new, I told him to snag one if he felt so inclined!

He did... and later didn't want it, so I ended up buying it from him for around that price.

I have to say, the nickel finish on it is flawless and it's awfully attractive for the little junker that we all know it is. On a rare occasion, it will get through a full magazine, 6 rounds I think it is, without a failure of some manner, but it's a noteworthy event and hardly happens.

It's a jam-a-matic, just like we've always read and heard. Very good lookin' little popper, but it's a manually operated repeater most of the time.

It's never been carried or effectively shot a whole lot and due to the "quality" if the finish on it, it actually looks pretty much as good and as new as when it was first purchased in 1993.

Attention Brass rats and other reloaders: I really need .327 Federal Magnum brass, no lot size too small. Tell me what caliber you need and I'll see what I have to swap. PM me and we'll discuss.
