Shotshell 209 primers

I use W209's for everything, but there is not necessarily a load for W209 primers. For those I stay at the low end of the spectrum, and live with the reduced velocity. Rarely had a problem with pressure on the high end, but it can happen. If loads won't cycle an auto, I know they are at the low end and bump them up. If I get an extraction problem, I suspect high pressures and drop a grain. All of my shotguns are 870's, which are probably one of the most durable designs. I wouldn't use the same practice on a Spanish made double that was forty years old.

It depends, but even established recipes followed to the letter have caused me a couple problems over time. HS loads with Red Dot and 1 1/8oz shot loads come to mind. The reason being that smallest shot sizes often come in a bit over.
