Has anyone ever made a "pocket" 22mag semi auto?

not sure, but i did hear a rumor that some one had a custom Auto Mag 2 with 3" bbl., but i don't think that it would qualify as a pocket pistol. __________________

Optimum pocket pistol caliber: 380? 9mm? 357 Sig? 40? 45?

I get the feeling the OP is referring to a hypothetical balance between stopping power and capacity. Is 5 .45s "more" than 7 9mms, or the opposite, etc.

There are many metrics you could use to do this, total bullet weight in the gun, total kinetic energy of all the rounds combined, total mass*velocity*numberRounds, etc etc. All of them would lead to different, and probably useless, conclusions.

Ultimately this is a caliber question, and they all stop the same above .380. So the answer is 9mm.

If you bring concealment into it, then it becomes a personal question. If you can conceal a CM9, 9mm. If you can't, .380.

The Best Small Pocket Auto In 22.lr

Maybe not the best,,,
Because "best" is such a subjective term,,,
My Taurus 22-PLY has been absolutely reliable with Mini-Mags or Federal Bulk.

I paid $201.00 a bit over a year ago,,,
8 rounds in the mag and one in the pipe,,,
I consider it to be a very fine little rimfire shooter.

Like I said,,,
Maybe not the best,,,
But a nice handgun none the less.

So I bought an Uberti 1849 pocket pistol

I know nothing in regards to the conversion cylinder but my first thoughts were exactly what Hawg said. I have a Uberti '51 Navy (which I really like) but I've found that that is one of the things I have to keep my eye on or if the wedge is in too far, it can lock up the cylinder tight. I always try to have the wedge in "thumb tight" (thumb pressure) but I would imagine each pistol has it's individual quirks.

Congrats on the '49! I've always wanted one but to be honest, I personally have never run across one at Cabelas that I'd lay my money down on. Don't get me wrong, I'm not bad mouthing Uberti, Cabelas or anything else. It's just that the individual '49s that I've looked at when at different Cabelas (probably 5 or 6 different ones) it always seemed like there was something wrong with them. One that I looked at had terrible timing, several felt like the actions had gravel in them, etc. I just took it as a "sign" that I wasn't supposed to get one! I just chalked it up as it was the particular pistol I was looking at as I know they are not all that way. One of these days I'll find a good one and it will come home with me.

Good luck with your '49 - you'll get it figured out and I think you'll end up with a really nice little shooter.
