Ruger death match did not end well
I stoked them with a variety of loads and let them bark at 10 yard targets.
First up was a batch of lightweight Cowboy loads. 265 grain lead over 5.5 grains of Trail Boss. The SRH chuffed and put together a fair group of holes in the paper, all within 2" of one another. The Redhawk puffed a few rounds here and a few rounds there. It was kind of hard to see the grouping since they scattered badly and I had sighted in the scope on my 45 Colt Contender using the same target.
Fresh targets went up and I stepped up to real ammo.
This round of shooting was done using 270 grain Thunderheads over 18 grains of 2400. Here's what the SRH had to say:
The Redhawk answered with this:
That was a little annoying so I changed to 255 grain round nose lead over the same 18 grains of 2400.
The SRH did this:
The Redhawk followed with:
All loads had about the same results. The SRH worked well for me and the RH ended up in it's Wonderland, as in I wonder where it will land.
This Redhawk target is a mix of the Thunderheads, RN lead, 300 grain silhouettes, and even 335 gr WNFP over 22 grains of H110.
I made a thorough inspection of the Redhawk before completing the transaction. It's a nice tight gun. Perhaps a bit too tight. Some of the colt cases that poofed out when fired in my old Vaquero would not fit in the Redhawk cylinder but dropped right in the Super Redhawk and the MGM built 45 Colt Contender barrel.
I'm going to clean these things for detailed measurement. I don't have a range rod but I should be able to turn one on the lathe after I have actual bore measurements.
Kinda frustrating.

Barnes match burner data needed .224
Use whatever OAL that works in your rifle. If it fits, and it the sweet spot for your rifle, and everything goes good, use the OAL that you want. I'm working on a .308 right now, where my OAL is .225" longer than what it says in the manual, but that OAL fits my rifle without touching the lands at all.

1200 Yard Long Range Match & Tactical Rifle/Pistol Match

REGISTRATION LINK
We have had a couple spots open up on the long range match. IM or Email me if you would like to get in on the match.
We are constructing a "shoot house" for the 1st stage of Carbine/ Pistol match. Something along the lines of a 24x40 structure that will be played out as a hostage rescue scenario. The 2nd part of the match will be a 3/8 mile long course filled with reactive steel set up in a winding creek bottom. I hope to have pics up shortly.

shot my first CMP match today.
I was using my Springfield CMP service grade M1 which I haven't even fired except to perform a function test. took me most of the first battery to get dialed in but I finished 3rd place. there was less than a dozen shooters total but I'm content to brag about it for a while. as for my personal standards I feel like I did horribly. it may have been me, or the rifle or a combination of the two but something just didn't measure up with the size of groups I was getting. I doubt I'll shoot much more with this rifle... maybe one day I'll get a 1917 or 1903A3 and I'll see about competing with them but I think I'll just let my old springfield M1 be a safe queen for a while.

Buffalo Bore and the S&W 642...Are They A Good Match?
Now, I'm thinking about just changing ammo and trying some Buffalo Bore. I hear it's a pretty hard hitter for .38 Special and that muzzle blast isn't as much of a problem.
So, any words of wisdom for me?

Metalic silhouette match
Boolit Master Join DateJan 2007LocationOdessa, TXPosts160
I'm going to try shooting in the IHMSA Internationals this July in Ft. Stockton, TX. They have one match called "Bordello" match. Targets..chickens.. 25 m, Pigs.. 50 m,... Turkeys..75m,..Rams..100m. The targets are half size of the standard full size metallic silhouettes. Standing, two-handed, no rest.
Guns limited to 5" bbl, no sight adjustment, pretty much what you might be carrying in a bordello. (If you frequent that type of establishment.)
I'll be shooting a Springfield XDM, 4.5 Inch bbl, .45ACP.
I have molds for about ten different .45 boolits, from 185 gr. SWC, 200SWC, 230 RN, etc. Lee, Seaco, Lyman, RCBS,etc.
Anybody have suggestions? (loads, bullet type, weight, etc?)
I'm 81 years old and would dearly like to beat some of them young whipper-snappers!

I would shoot the 230 gr bullet in the 800-900 fps range and learn my sight pictures for the various ranges. Really whatever is most accurate is what you should shoot. The 185 and 200 gr bullets will reliably knock down everything but the rams and the 200's would probably get most of them. The best thing you can do if you want to beat those young whippersnappers is practice ,practice, practice! Remember, the 3 most important things are sight alignment , sight alignment, and sight alignment plus one other minor thing. Breaking the trigger without disturbing the previously mentioned sight alignmentGood luck and enjoy the match.
