Yet another Mosin Nagant Thread -

there are some sites that can check the serial number on your rifle, i never really looked into that, but its worth a try.i wouldnt know any other way to check, id say wait to see if someone else knows useful sources, id actually like to know now.
i know most mosins have been in a war at some time, my own mosin was beautiful out of the box. but after disassembly i noted rust damage under the top hangaurd, and i had to treat before it got any worse. so make sure you strip her down to make sure there is no issues.

Mosin disassembly
-remove bolt by holding trigger and pulling bolt back, this will pull it out of the channel. set this aside.

-press the 2 pins on the right side along the barrel,(one at a time) this will allow you to move the rings forward and set them up front to take hand guard out(the area my rifle had water/rust damage)

-now remove the wood guard, place aside

-unscrew bottom barrel screw, remove set aside

-unscrew the screw in the area behind the bolt(top rear of rifle)

-now pull top receiver and barrel/trigger away, and pull the fixed magazine out, now watch the triger, there is a small pin that can drop out , this is replaceable , but just something to note.

now its disassembled, check parts for the cosmo thats so common on mosins, and this allows you to properly access to other parts

My Mosin Nagant 91/30

Location: Macomb County MichiganI bought this Mosin Nagant from AIM, it arrived with all matching numbers and a bayonet. I'm not a purist, so I ordered Boyd's Thumbhole stock and a muzzle break...Threw on Arctic Grey Duracoat, smoothed out the trigger after watching several Youtube videos on the subject...I also bedded the action to the stock using Accu-glass (not that easy, but went slow and read the instruction many, many times). Then I took it to the gunsmith for safety check, he chuckled, and asked me why do all this when you can just buy a new already sporterized rifle? I simply said said that I wanted to "build" this rifle myself..Range test in 2 weeks, and when I get zeroed in and start getting nice groupings, I'll be a very happy man for under $375...Here's some before and after pics....Happy Shooting!!!

Mosin Nagant Bolt Head measurment

I need a favor, please: can I get some measurements of the bolt head for Mosin Nagants? The measurement I need is the from the bolt face to the bottom of the bolt head through the guide channel.

On my rifle with a good chamber, a 91/30, I get a measurement of 1.4775".
On my 1st rifle, an M44, I get a measurement of 1.4725".

I don't have chamber guides but I may get a set if it comes back that the issue here is just the bolt head. I really like my M44, but I know it has excessive head space and I'm hoping all I have to do is swap that bolt head. If I use the bolt head from my 91/30, I can easily chamber a round and the action is still very smooth (much better than my 91/30), though I haven't yet fired the M44 this way.

Thanks in advance,
Sean
