Yet another Mosin Nagant Thread -

there are some sites that can check the serial number on your rifle, i never really looked into that, but its worth a try.i wouldnt know any other way to check, id say wait to see if someone else knows useful sources, id actually like to know now.
i know most mosins have been in a war at some time, my own mosin was beautiful out of the box. but after disassembly i noted rust damage under the top hangaurd, and i had to treat before it got any worse. so make sure you strip her down to make sure there is no issues.

Mosin disassembly
-remove bolt by holding trigger and pulling bolt back, this will pull it out of the channel. set this aside.

-press the 2 pins on the right side along the barrel,(one at a time) this will allow you to move the rings forward and set them up front to take hand guard out(the area my rifle had water/rust damage)

-now remove the wood guard, place aside

-unscrew bottom barrel screw, remove set aside

-unscrew the screw in the area behind the bolt(top rear of rifle)

-now pull top receiver and barrel/trigger away, and pull the fixed magazine out, now watch the triger, there is a small pin that can drop out , this is replaceable , but just something to note.

now its disassembled, check parts for the cosmo thats so common on mosins, and this allows you to properly access to other parts

Savage 64 TR-SR thread length and Sparrow

I bought a Savage 64 TR-SR for the threaded barrel, and when I try to screw on my SilencerCo Sparrow, it bottoms out before touching the shoulder of the barrel. I know a spacer is needed, but all the ones I have looked at seem too thick. I dont want peel washers, but a spacer that is machined for the correct purpose. Has anyone found a good spacer, preferably threaded, for this purpose? The link is to the 64 TR-SR so everyone will know which rifle Im talking about

Thread Wear Changing Scopes?

I want to change the bases on my Winchester Model 70 to a Dual Dovetail set-up. I currently have the windage screws on the back base.

Will you wear the threads out on the rifle changing bases, or is it okay as long as you use the appropriate torque? I have one of those Wheeler screwdrivers that tell me the torque.

I just had Erik ship me this mold. It should be here shortly. This will be my first HP mold, and attempt at casting such.
I can't wait to see what challenges are ahead of me.
I thought I should hurry up and reserve some bandwidth here for this, because lord knows even after researching tons of HP threads I'm bound to have questions.

Take a blue pill before the act and if your session lasts for more than four hours, call a qualified professional.

make a wire hanger stand from a coat hanger.
and set it up so the tip of the pin dangles in the melt.
some use a torch and the stand to do the same thing.
it will depend on how quickly you can get everything apart and back together and filled again.

A Bullet thread(!)

Yesterday, 04:53 PM I have a bunch of Rainier plated bullets, 240gr., .430, for .44(sp. and mag.). I have pushed them, in the past, to about 950-1000fps, and kinda thinking about stepping them up a bit. I have heard(read?), not to push them "too" fast. Don't know where "too" fast might be, will I be safe to about 1150-1200fps. Gun is a Ruger SBH(actually 2, a 7.5in., and a 5.5in), I know the gun will take in style. Something about bullet being rather soft? Just guessing. No crimp groove, probably need advice since recoil setback(bullet moving in the case) could be problematic with increased intensity of load. Thanks, y'all, just don't want to create an unsafe situation. Tried to think of variables...will be using IMR 4227 and Enforcer and Federal 150's.
