Lee 9mm mold worked great and thanks to DukeInMaine!

DukeInMaine invited me over last night to help me prep my first mold. About 4 yrs ago he got me fired up about casting and I went to that casting clinic in ma with him and Stewart. What a great day! I came home all ramped up and started collecting WW and lead... And then scored skin cancer! Damn! Two yrs on hold for all the fun, got rid of it, now back in the game but low on cash from medical bills and such. Finally could afford a Lee 124gr tumble lube 6 cavity mold. I got to drool on DukeInMaine's collection of beautiful moulds, then we got down to business. Quick mould prep, ie: deburr, degrease, lightly lube Sprue plate once mould heated up. No smoking the moulds or any of the stuff I thought we would have to do! The first half a dozen casts were too cool, then things started rolling and we got some good boolits!

Thanks goes out to DukeInMaine for his welcoming in and being a great host and teacher, despite his own medical woes. Not surprisingly he has a very nice daughter who I had the pleasure to meet.

great casting session

It was raining here this morning, and continues....I decided to cast some boolits and opted to use the NOE 311008GC 4 cavity to cast up a batch of lightweight 30s. I have a batch of low antimony mix in the 20# Lee, and decided to use it since I was planning on moderate velocity loads anyway. The mold preheated on top of the pot, and I dumped the 1st cast into the sprue box. After that, it was all keepers. The session was going unusually well, and I kept feeding the sprue back into the pot along with preheated 1/2# ingots, frequent fluxing, etc. I finally got tired and called it a session. The naked boolits weigh 120gr in this mix, and the batch weighs 17# according to my old scale, so just shy of 1K boolits in this session! These are beautiful boolits, and lots of 'em!

Those thousand boolits should keep you busy reloading for a while.

They try telling me that I'm crazy but we know better.

They'll keep me busy experimenting for a while. Between my 30-06s, 7.5x55s, 308s, 30-30s, 32-20, and 7.62x39 bolt gun I have plenty to feed. I had already fed some to the 7.62x39 sized .312" and they grouped 3/8"-1/2" at 58 yards. The Lee pot is full of that mix and I have another 5# on hand, so may cast another batch.

Great article on canning meat

i liked that article very much, can we say "pressure cooker" here ??

about 25 years ago my wife and i canned 45 pint jars of wild caught trout in a pressure cooker, don't recall the name, but we paid about $100.00 for it then, it has 6 locking screw bolts that secure the lid. over the years we consumed all but one pint jar, after three moves we found that one pint jar of trout..., just wondering if it would be good to eat ?

9.3 specific checks work great

ordered some 9.3 specific gas checks a few months ago, finally cast some boolits and was impressed with the new checks. Unlike the 375 checks which are commonly used, no more concave or convex checks. perfect.
