FIRST CAST Questions

Cast Boolits - Dedicated To The World Of Cast Bullets!

Okay I did my first casts tonight. 500 230 TC using a Lee Aluminum mold.

Couple of questions.

I want to shoot these in a .45 ACP (most likely a 1911 or a Glock 21), I purchased the Lee sizer however somebody told me that using that particular mold I should need to size? Is this correct?

Also, I tumble lubed using the ALOX that came with the sizing die, if I size to I need to re-tumble lube before I load?

Anyway here are the pics....

BTW this is SUPER addicting if these shoot well.

PS planning on using Unique for these anybody got a load?
PSS already planning on purchasing a lonewolf barrel for the G21.

All moulds seem different, I have a lee 45 converted to HP that drops close enough for my Kimber to not be sized, I gave some to my brother and they wouldn't load in his colt so now I always size, I guess the answer IMO is to always size
I always size. Even with the as cast lee molds. You never know, you may have some out of round. Yes, LIGHTLY tumble lube after sizing. You'll know once you run a couple if you needed to size them. I assume you got a .452 sizer, right? Also, might wanna let them sit a couple days or so before lubing next time and re-measure, things change as the bullets age.
I support your right to keep and arm bears.
I resize everything just to make sure they are right and round. If they drop at the right size you arent gonna hurt them any running through the sizer.
If you heard my shot, then you weren't the target!

I give a light coat of alox then size and then another coat of alox. Also take a look at Lsstuff.com they are a sponser and they have alox for cheaper than lee.
oo one more thing......I couldn't find a piece of wood to knock my sprue plate and cut the lead. so I looked around the yard. then it hit me we have a section of the yard over grown with large BAMBOO stocks. Pullet out the machete and cut me a club. Worked pretty well.

I have two bottles that came with my sizing die so i'll check. I'm also waiting for a guy at work who thinks he has a bunch of casting stuff that he got when he got his reloading stuff. Gonna check it out tomorrow. I think i'm good on lube for a while. I really want a 6 bangor lee TC 124 mold.

I lube with LLA and load them when dry.
I lube with LLA and load them when dry. When does that happen?

On a serious note, you want to tumble lube (I just lube the die for sizing, but whatever), size, then tumble lube again. Let them get dryish and then load.

For what it's worth: Rather than whacking the sprue cutter, open it with a gloved thumb.

Rawhide mallet works well for cutting sprues
