Do I really want/need a 7mm mag?

ReplyOld Today, 05:18 AM Tnhunter's AvatarWell, you now own .264, .308 and .338 calibers and are looking at buying a .284 with excellent performance and reputation, not sure where the redundency problem is with that idea The M70, even in a bargain package, is normally a quality rifle and remains perhaps my favorite bolt action type. The 7mag fits a nice niche (IMO) within your present battery and would also make a fine back-up rifle for hunts where any of the others are your main gun.

Loaded with 139/140 gr it would do anything the 6.5x55 can do, at least as well. Wih 140-150gr bullets it will also do anything the .308 does and loaded with heavy quality bullets of 160-175gr it can work well for elk and moose sized game as a back-up for the .338. Conversely, there are plenty of hunts where the big 7 might be the best number 1 choice, figuring deer to elk, then using one of the others as a fine B/U rifle. What's not to like for 4 Benjamins?? If you shoot and like your .338 WM, the recoil is a non-issue. Enjoy your new toy!!
