Compression Dies

I just snagged a 74 Shiloh Sharps, #3 Sporter in 45-90 caliber. This is my first BPCR and I've done a fair share of reading on the forum and elsewhere and noticed mention here and there about a compression die. Is that really needed? Seem to me once the case is charged and the powder given a light compression by the bullet base that should be all that's needed. But, I'm a novice to this sort of rifle so may not see the entire picture.

One question about front sights. This one has a globe sight and wondered what apertures I could use...brand wise. I assume they are not universal in thickness, etc. This is that the sight looks like.
