?anyone load 270win on a Dillon? or 7mm

Cast Boolits - Dedicated To The World Of Cast Bullets!

does anyone load a 270win/7mm on a Dillon 550b/650?

i'm getting everything together to load it on my 550b.

do to the shortages was thinking i would just machine my own powder funnel.

the only thing i don't know is how long it should be.

i have the funnel that works with the 30-06 so i was going to go with that length unless some one has one and can tell me how long it is.

it's the Dillon "J" funnel

thanks for any input.

what I hand-load; 45 acp; 223 rem(5.56mm); 22-250 rem; 243 win; 30-30 win; 308 win; 45-70 gov.
on the list to start Loading; 9 mm; 270 win; 30-06 springfield; 222 rem

I'm pretty sure they have powder funnels. I load the same stuff on mine.

Take care

I have a complete conversion kit for the 7mm mag, 550 press. It's in the dillon, blue box. It includes powder funnel, pins, and shellplate.
$38 would include shipping, if you want it.

Not to step on you obssd1958.... but I have a new old stock J funnel I'd sell grampa243 ONLY, for $15 shipped... if he only needs the funnel.

Or... I would be glad to post the specs if he wants to just turn his own.

What say you grampa243?

I had to pull my powder measurer off the press to get this ,the over all is 1.2200" and the step for the shell in the bottom is .3310", the bell on the bottom looks to be about .1500 deep.

yeah but it's a 6-8 week back-log on orders I was there last Monday and picked up three powder funnels, some buttons and my rebuilt SD press.

Did not think the 270 powder funnel was that popular. Wow! If you make one, make a few to cover your costs. Just a thought.

Here?s how I load bottleneck rifle rounds and any other round that needs case lube to size.

1st method: I lube cases then size . Then tumble cases clean in corn cob. In place of size die in station one I place a Lyman or RCBS Cowboy M die for neck expansion.

2nd method: With calibers that I?m fat with loading dies. I have bushing type neck and or full length dies. I?ll buy a bushing to give .002? compression fit on whatever boolit size I?m using. With a neck size only all you need is to dip necks into motor mica or graphite then run them right through the Dillon.

With loads that shoot to a high enough pressure to achieve a gas seal between case and chamber your brass will stay clean. I use polish when I tumble clean my brass and generally neck size and shoot rifle brass several times before it needs cleaned up again. Wipe neck with cloth, dip in graphite then toss into bin.

In my 270 Win my favorite load so far is 14.0 gr. Unique under the little 122 grain Lyman Loverin. For under 1900 fps. Plan to try some 2400 under the 122 and 150 and think that will be about right. Rifle powders I?ve tried. Rx7 and 4198 don?t get to burning clean before max velocity is reached. So far all my accuracy loads are between 1805 and 1875 fps. I can do that with Unique and the pressure is adequate to give a cases to chamber seal and bore stays so clean it?s bright. Same results with my 243 AI. I can get nice results at 200 yards. Just can?t get them to go fast to buck wind. 223 along with any of my 30 calibers will go fast. Not a big deal as the recoil of a 122 or 150 grain boolit at just under 1,900 fps is about right. Plus the 14.0 grains of Unique under the 122 grain boolit creates very little heat so I can shoot long strings of twenty or so rounds before mirage starts to throw off my aim. I would predict barrel life to be extremely long with such a load. 8lb keg of powder gives 4,000 loaded rounds. Will be trying Alliant 2400 starting at 16 grains then some of our new copper enhanced alloys. Mostly be working with the 6mm and 30 bore this summer.

i'm sure they have the 270 funnel but it's a long drive from NY to get it and placing a mail order is the back log i'm speaking of. I placed a $300 dollar order with them mid February and it still has not shipped.

your 30,or 7mm cal one might work.
it's all an educated guess,,,, till the trigger is pulled.

the more i find out about shootin boolits, the more it contradicts everything i ever learned about shooting jaxketed.

your 30,or 7mm cal one might work. The 7mm also use the "J" funnel, the "B" 30 cal funnel might work??, but the 270 shell is really sloppy in it!
