223\308 cast bullet powder

Cast Boolits - Dedicated To The World Of Cast Bullets!

Can you guys give me a powder that will work in 223\308 bolt action guns with cast bullets? I have a large supply of unique and AA#9 will either one work for both?
Straight from the Lyman Cast bullet book using Unique:
223 with 55gr boolit 7.6-9.0 gr.
308 180gr 12.2-15.5

Accurate does not list cast boolit loads for these calibers in the book I have.

I don't have any #9 but I would try 10 grs in the 223.
and 15 in the 308 just to get started.
it's all an educated guess,,,, till the trigger is pulled.

the more i find out about shootin boolits, the more it contradicts everything i ever learned about shooting jaxketed.

One of the 4895s or Varget, for top accuracy loads.
I have had excellent results from #9 in a .25-21 Stevens, using fairly light loads to attain 1450 fps. Better SD over the Chrony than 2400 or anything else I tried. I haven't tried it in the .223, but it ought to work very well IMHO. Some of the ASSRA guys use it in the .32-40 case, so it might be worth a try in your .308, too. Speedwise it's a dead ringer for 2400, so if you have 2400 data, work from that.

Havan't tried Unique in the .223, but last weekend I had great success with 7.5 grains of Red Dot and a 50 grain j-wart.

I should have said from the start that the #9 IS CARBINE PULLDOWN that I load to #9 data, Would this be ok?
If it works with AA #9 data, it should. In these days of famine, we can't be picky. Just avoid double charges!

I don't load 223 but I do load 308. You can use Varget and W748 for both cartridges. W748 works very well for me in 308. And I'm in the process of load development with Varget.
To stay on target, RCBS lists 7.5-8.5 Unique with their 55 gn FN in a 223 . A very old Lyman dosen't list Unique in a 308 but does on the 3006. The starting loads for bullets from 150 gn. to 210 gn. is 10.0 or 11.0 and Max. of 15.0 with lighter [150-165] gn bullets and 20.0 with the 175 th 210 gn bullets.
