Hunting in reverse , in Calif. .

Cast Boolits - Dedicated To The World Of Cast Bullets!

A very good reason to pack ... only in Calif. they won't let you so I guess it reverse's the food chain... .. puts a twist on "hunting"

Sometimes critters don't agree about with us about who's atop the food chain. Negotiation is a rather silly idea in this situation. No idea what a hiker was doing out on a trail in mountain lion country after sundown but I'm willing to bet it won't happen again.

"try to help officials determine what may have prompted the animal's behavior."

Um ???? Its a predator!!!!!! Thats what happens when a predator sees a sheep. It makes dinner plans!!!! But, alass we continue to want to cuddle the snuggly kitty. I wish every animal in that state would invade the city and make them defend themselves.

Yep. I bet the necropsy shows a perfectly healthy tom who was behaving in a perfectly normal fashion. We have been on the dinner menu for lots of big predators for millions of years. Just because we have cell phones now does not mean they have all suddenly, instinctivly, somehow, learned to ignore us..........
Yep .... bet that California "outdoors-man" went home to change his underwear.
Now what would have happened if you or I had taken care of that animal in self defense ....
Many/most death by mountain Lion incidents occur here. Since we were stupid enough to make hunting mountain lions illegal here, we have more mt. lions, less deer and way less big horn sheep and a few less dumb-a$$ liberals.

When I used to live in Southern PDRK up till 2006, I did a lot of trekking, camping, packing, and such in the back country of San Diego, Imperial and riverside counties. As Soon as I turned off the paved road, the 686 got strapped on. I never had to use it against a predator, I saw only a few, I did see lots of tracks and remains of kills. Jmortimer has it right, eliminating the hunting of Mt. Lions was almost as stupid as banning the carry of firearms for defense in the back country.

TANSTAAFL!

our local paper would have read more like hiker found Mtn. Lion shot near trail and notified idfg.
idfg responded to the call {eventually] and found the lions tracks paralelled the hiking trail, leading investigators to believe the lion may have been following hikers in the area for some time.
no leads were found at the sight,if you have any information please call your regional office.
it's all an educated guess,,,, till the trigger is pulled.

the more i find out about shootin boolits, the more it contradicts everything i ever learned about shooting jaxketed.

10-4 on that one Runfive ....Wasn't it a few months back that the head of the Calif. DFG commision was let go because he legitimately went on a mountain lion hunt out of state , maybe Idaho , don't remember but he published a pic of his trophy and that did it ... they booted him out of office ...
Calif. Politics ......okay I better hush now before I get carried away here ...

As a native Californian for 63 years years who managed to escape a few years ago I can say that ALL of California is mountain lion country. My last home there was a town of 100,000+ and puma were regularly seen in city limits. One was photographed only two blocks from my home. The danger is much overrated. They have attacked people but on a list of causes of personal injury they are so far down the list they haven't got that far yet. They must be one of the least likely threats.
What's the problem with lions?
All you need to do is call 911 and a helicopter from the Republic is over head in seconds to save the day.
Isn?t that what the story was all about?

In my area of north central NM local folks cook it and can it right along side bear and elk and venison...
Never cared for home canned meat...or canned meat period. I've courteously tried it all, and universally disliked it all. Each has a unique flavor and texture, but was not well accepted by my uncultured palate.
It's a lot of work, and may be ok in stews and soups, but none of it "tasted like chicken".... unless it was road kill chicken from last week.
