I have about 500 44-250-k boolits to lube. I have a pound of bee's wax and am looking for a fairly simple and very idiot proof lube for pan lubing. I've been doing site searches and getting a bit overwhelmed. Also do I have to cut the boolits out or can I push them out. Thanks.
it's all an educated guess,,,, till the trigger is pulled.

the more i find out about shootin boolits, the more it contradicts everything i ever learned about shooting jaxketed.

I've used Emmert's home mix for years on all of my pan lubed bullets (both BPCR and black powder .45 Colt as well as normal pistol and revolver smokeless loads). Emmert's pan lubes perfectly. Here is an article I wrote for the Single Shot Rifle Journal some years ago:

Try it, you'll like it just fine...

Dale, nice article! Does this lube work as well for smokeless loads, like for pistol bullets??

Also, can parafin be substituted for beezwax? I ask because I have some parafin on hand.

What about speed green or TAC? Both simple to make and you can pan lube with them. I just got through pan lubing a batch of 147 gr 9mm boolits with speed green. Either can be home made or bought premade from their respective makers. Speed green is a bit sticky and I add about an ounce of carnauba wax per pound and it works out really well.

You can use the search feature here to find either of the two. IIRC the recipe for both is 12 oz beeswax, 4 ounces of bull plate or ZIP (both sprue lubes, the first from Bullshop the other from Randyrat) If you need a little firmer/less tacky lube mix as above and add an ounce of carnauba wax to either to firm it up/ make it less sticky.

Chimonty;
Thanks for the kind words. Beeswax has special properties and before you substitute, I suggest trying the original recipe. It works just fine for smokeless pistol loads. The only negative I could state is that it melts at about 135 degrees. I carried my ammo in a spare cooler to avoid extremes of temperatures in the hot summer time. I used it exclusively in my Schutzen rifle (.32 caliber plain base bullet at 1400-1500 fps in a half minute rifle).

very good article. I've never lubed yet but that will help a lot. Thanks!
I use this stuff, super simple I just call and order! They make some great lube AND they are a banner sponsor here on the site. These people are super to work with and you couldnt ask for better service!

BTW for pan lubing buy there "by the pound" stuff

I like to keep it simple and try for the fewest ingredients and still have the lube work in my guns. One of the best so far is "Speed Green". 3 to 1 by weight beeswax to Bullplate. You may have to adjust the ratio a bit, but that's all there is to it. Some folks (me too) use synthetic 2-cycle motor oil in place of the Bullplate. I use about 55% paraffin and 45% Vaseline (this is just hard enough to stay solid in summer heat) with a tablespoon of the old sticky RCBS lube that came in a tube thrown in. It was named to me as Darr's recipe. You can use the cake cutter or push them out. I generally push them out and have no problems with lube missing from the grooves
